QSheets is a quick and easy-to-use app for displaying text, images, and playback of audio files. It allows users to create a folder structure in iCloud, which is used to navigate through the content. Although developed for a gigging keyboard player, the app can be used for various purposes, such as lead sheets, song texts, quizzes, and presentations.
In the settings you can enable a simple midi viewer, that helps to view the used midi channel, CC values and program changes.

One of the standout features of QSheets is that there is no need to scroll through sheets in a folder, as all sheets are displayed at once. The interface is clean and straightforward, and there are many under-the-hood features that enhance the user experience.



iCloud based



To use the app, users must log in to iCloud on an iOS device and start the app, which will create a QSheet folder in iCloud. Users can then create a folder structure in iCloud either from the device or via a Mac or iCloud in the cloud. After pressing the refresh button or restarting the app, users can navigate the folders by pressing the buttons.

When a sheet is selected, it is displayed full screen. Users can navigate to the previous or next sheet by clicking on the left or right side of the screen, respectively. Pressing in the middle will return to the folder view.

The colors are dark to prevent a glowing face of the person using it on stage.

QSheets also supports the playback of audio files, such as .mp3 files, and MIDI program changes, including basic MIDI program changes with or without Bank Select. The app supports .txt and .jpg files for sheets and up to 500 items can be stored in one folder.

The app automatically downloads iCloud folders of offline usage when the folder is selected. Files are sorted with folders on top, and folders have a slightly darker color and brackets [ ] around their names. The battery and clock are displayed bigger to be visible during performances from a larger distance. If the battery turns red, the power is disconnected. Images are displayed as big as possible with the correct aspect ratio. Text files as big as possible without the need to wrap the text.



Startup with iCloud issues



To use iCloud, you need to be logged in. If you're not logged in, a window will appear prompting you to do so. Once you've logged in, you can simply press 'rescan' to update your iCloud.



MIDI Program Changes

QSheets also includes special MIDI program changes option for Nord Stage 3, Nord Stage 4, and Nord Wave 2. The manual is added to the iCloud folder QSheets at startup with details.

For the connection towards a Midi device, you have to connect via a Camera connection adapter, a bluetooth midi connection or some host program that creates a virtual midi input.
For example: a Camera connection adapter with a USB hub that connects to several USB-midi devices or a class compliant USB midi interface.




Format of Program Change



MIDI Program change is part of the filename, several Program changes can be insert, separated by comma. The limit is the iCloud Filename Length of 256 characters

FORMAT 1: filename<TYPE-PARAM1-PARAM2,TYPE-PARAM1>.txt

FORMAT 2: filename[TYPE-PARAM1-PARAM2,TYPE-PARAM1].txt

TYPE = PC, NS3, NS4, NW2

PC: Program Change with params:

• CH = Midi channel (1..16)
• BM = Bank MSB (0..127) optional
• BL = Bank LSB (0..127) optional

Example: "Mustang Sally<PC2-CH1,PC5-CH2-BM20-BL1>.txt"

NS3, NS4, NW2: Nord Stage 3,4 and Nord Wave 2 with params:

• CH = Midi channel (1..16)
• xaa = Program as displayed on synth like A43 and I88

Example: "Mustang Sally<NS3-CH1-A21,NW2-CH2-B31>.txt"

All program changes are send to all connected devices, so be aware that they only listen to the correct midi channel


AUDIO FILES should have the same name as the .txt or .jpg file without the PC section. Names are case sensitive!

Quick Program change list for Nord Synths



Specially for one or more Nord Synths there is an option to limit the amount of data between the brackets

FORMAT for Quick: filename<XXXYYYZZZ...>.txt

where XXX, YYY, ZZZ are program numbers for Nord Synths

supported: 5 based numbers (Nord Stage 3, Nord Wave 2, Nord Piano 5) and 8 based numbers (Nord Stage 4)
Convention: Upper-case for 5 based and Lower-case for 8 based
The midi channel is equal to the position in the list starting at midi channel 1

Example: "Mustang Sally<C11B23a11>.txt"
will send C11 on channel 1 to a 5 based Nord, B23 on channel 2 to a 5 based Nord and A11 on channel 3 to a 8 based Nord.



Auto Download bigger files:



QSheets will download the bigger files automatically and leave them on the device, so during live performance there is no need to have an internet connection!

The way this works is:

If you have an internet connection, QSheets can scan the folders you need for a gig and detect which files are only in the cloud. It will automatically download any necessary files to your device. After making modifications to your QSheets folder on iCloud, briefly connect your iPad to the internet to ensure everything is up to date. Files in .txt and .jpg formats are usually smaller than 1MB and will sync automatically through iCloud. However, larger .mp3 files may not sync automatically. To download them, simply open QSheets and navigate to the folder where the new .mp3 files are located. QSheets will then download them to your device.
